Shafaq News/ The Iranian newspaper "Tehran Times" reported on Monday that Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi intends to make an imminent visit to Saudi Arabia, the second of its kind within days, in order to push the Saudi-Iranian talks forward, considering that this tour may be an "opportunity The latter” in front of Saudi Arabia, before Al-Kazemi’s possible exit from his position.
And the Iranian newspaper pointed out, in a report translated by Shafak News Agency, that it was the German news agency "DPA" that revealed that Al-Kazemi will visit Saudi Arabia again this week, quoting a diplomatic source in Riyadh, where he is supposed to meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and others. One of the most senior Saudi officials.
Under the title "Saudi indifference can eliminate the mediation of the Iraqi prime minister," the Iranian newspaper indicated that Al-Kazemi's visit comes after the two recent visits he made to Saudi Arabia and Iran, in an attempt to revive talks between the two countries, where he met bin Salman in Jeddah and the President Ibrahim Raisi in Tehran.
After his visit to Saudi Arabia, a statement was issued stressing the importance of Iraq's role in converging views in the region and the efforts made for calm and constructive dialogue, a clear implicit reference to Iraqi mediation in facilitating and hosting five rounds of talks between Saudi and Iranian officials.
Now, the report says that Al-Kazemi's possible visit to Saudi Arabia is in order to inform Saudi officials of the results of the talks he held in Tehran with President Ibrahim Raisi and Iranian officials.
The report added that Al-Kazemi continues to advance his diplomatic mediation, and that, according to a diplomatic source in Riyadh, the Iraqi prime minister will convey to Saudi officials the results of his recent visit to Tehran and Iran's position on the agenda items for the next round of Saudi-Iranian talks in order to reach solutions to the points. And thus pave the way for the full restoration of relations between the two countries.
The last round of talks between the two countries led to an understanding to raise the level of talks to a diplomatic level, while Iran said that the talks would resume soon in the capital, Baghdad.
The Iranian newspaper report concluded by saying that the new round of talks will be "the last chance for Saudi Arabia to restore relations with Iran, as the man responsible for coordinating the talks may lose his job given that Iraq is now on the path of forming a new government."
The report pointed out that Al-Kazemi "played a vital role in the Saudi-Iranian talks, but is now about to lose his position as prime minister in light of negotiations in Baghdad to form a new government after the 2021 elections."
