informed source in Iraqi ports said today, Wednesday, that an Iraqi excavator was subjected to "excesses" by the Kuwaiti Coast Guard, forcing it to return to Iraqi ports.
The source stated, "The Iraqi dredger (Dhi Qar) was carrying out maintenance works within the Iraqi maritime area in the port of Khor Abdullah, which is shared with Kuwait, according to the latest border demarcation."
And the source indicated, "The dredger received a call via radio that included a threat from the Kuwaiti Coast Guard to arrest it if it continued its work."
He added, "The Iraqi side represented by the Sea Ports Authority was forced to withdraw the rig from its work immediately, without entering into any discussion with the Kuwaiti side," noting that "there is a statement that may be issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry or the Ports Authority in the coming hours that explains more details about the incident."
