Erbil (Kurdistan 24) - The State of Law Coalition responded on Saturday to the statement of the Minister of Al-Sadr, in which he announced an initiative not to involve blocs and parties in the political process during the next stage, describing it as impossible to implement.
The leader of the coalition, Fadel Mawat, said, in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that "what the minister of al-Sadr has proposed cannot be implemented, especially since it is neither constitutional nor legal, so there is nothing to prevent the participation of political forces in the political scene during the coming period."
Mwat explained that "what al-Sadr put forward deepens the political crisis and does not solve it. It is not possible to accept the marginalization of political blocs and parties that have popular bases according to the request and conditions of a political party, and this is why what the Minister of al-Sadr proposed cannot be applied on the ground."
On Saturday, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, put forward a proposal that he considered "more important" than dissolving parliament, which is the signing of an agreement stipulating that all political forces, including the Sadrists, not participate in the elections.
Iraq has witnessed an unprecedented political stalemate since the inconclusive parliamentary elections held in October 2021, in which the Sadrists won, but they were unable to form a government.
The Sadrists have been protesting for about a month in front of the House of Representatives to prevent the coordination framework from forming the government, while the frameworks have been holding a sit-in since August 12 on a road leading to the Green Zone through the suspension bridge in Baghdad.
On August 10, al-Sadr demanded the dissolution of Parliament within a week, but the judiciary later said that it did not have this authority. The Federal Court is expected to hold a hearing within three days to consider that claim.
