SIXT announces the opening of the first station in Erbil - Iraq
As part of its internationalization strategy, mobility provider SIXT opened its first stop in Erbil, the economic capital of Iraq last week. The new station marks the beginning of a franchise partnership with Muhannad Rent a Car, a member of the Muhannad Group. The newly constructed terminal is the first step in an expansion plan that includes SIXT terminals at international airports and in other major cities in Iraq.
With a fleet of more than 240,000 vehicles in more than 100 countries, SIXT is already one of the largest providers of mobility services in the world and is constantly moving forward with its international growth. Just a few months ago, the company headquartered in Bolag near Munich expanded its corporate footprint to Canada, and at the end of last year to Australia with a new franchise partner. SIXT has increased the share of its international business from 29% to about 70% over the past decade (fiscal year 2021 compared to 2009). Apart from geographical expansion, this is also due to significant market share gains in international markets.
Distinguished mobility from SIXT in Iraq for the first time
The new franchise partnership in Iraq will benefit from SIXT's extensive over 100 years of mobility experience and Muhannad Rent A Car's in-depth knowledge of the local car rental market. Since last week, Sixt has been welcoming its customers to its new station in downtown Erbil to meet the growing demand for premium mobility in the city. The range of mobility services offered includes short and long-term conventional car rental, vehicle rental and limousine services. The fleet mix includes vehicles ranging from compact cars and sedans to SUVs and ATVs.
By expanding in Iraq, SIXT is expanding its presence in the Middle East: among other countries, the company is already present in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia through successful franchise partnerships. The mobility service provider operates over 2,100 stations in total in more than 100 countries.
