    On Thursday, February 23, 2023, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani held the fourth meeting of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the Association of Iraqi Banks, in the context of meetings and decisions aimed at addressing the crisis in the dollar market.
    Al-Sudani stressed, for the second time, the pursuit of smugglers and currency speculators
    The meeting took place, according to a statement by Al-Sudani's office, seen by "Ultra Iraq", "in the presence of the governor of the Central Bank, government financial agencies and departments, taxes, customs, border crossings and trade fairs."

    Al-Sudani affirmed "the continuation of the economic reforms adopted by the government in its ministerial platform, and the implementation of institutional reform to be a starting point for comprehensive reforms in the structure of the state." He also stressed the continuation of governmental measures aimed at achieving stability in the currency market, "stressing, for the second time in the trade meeting, on" Pursuing speculators and manipulators who try to destabilize the market, as our security services continue to monitor and hold them legally accountable.
    In the third meeting, which was previously held, Al-Sudani stressed "a firm confrontation with smugglers and speculators" and stressed that "whoever bets on going back and practicing smuggling and violating laws and instructions is a losing bet."

    In addition to the currency, the fourth meeting of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce reviewed "recommendations related to improving the work environment," according to the statement, which stated that it "will be presented next week to the Ministerial Council of Economy and deliberation in developments in the economic conditions in Iraq, and follow-up on laws, recommendations and directives issued, and the level of their implementation by concerned institutions.

    The recommendations targeted the "electronic declaration and networking system project in detail", between Al-Sudani and the team in charge of implementation, where, according to Al-Sudani, the project could "secure the work of border crossings" as well as "simplify the procedures that will be done electronically", "prevent manipulation and forgery", and reduce " Money laundering and customs evasion.
    The meeting also discussed “communication with importers of medical devices, and submitting proposals on facilitating procedures in the matter of importing and manufacturing medicine,” such as “reducing customs tariffs for a number of raw materials for medicines, medical supplies, secondary packaging materials for medicines, medical supplies, machinery, production lines, and laboratory and medical devices.” With raising the customs tariff on imported medicines that are similar to what is produced locally.

     Joint operating contracts between private sector companies and the General Company for Iraqi Ports were also on the meeting table, in addition to "the most important steps that were implemented in this regard, which included field visits to the company, and an audit of the fees and wages that are charged."
