Baghdad - Mawazine News
The Veterinarians Syndicate said today, Saturday, that public health in the country is threatened, in light of the significant decrease in the number of veterinary staffs, while it indicated that most of the epidemics and diseases are of animal origin.
The Syndicate, Dr. Abdel-Fattah Sheikh Kazem, stated that "the veterinary medical apprenticeship law was voted on by Parliament and has become obligatory for implementation by the Ministry of Agriculture," stressing that "the Syndicate has approached the Prime Minister, the Service Council, and the Ministry of Finance, but so far no decision has been issued, despite the Syndicate's meeting. With the Prime Minister and his support for the law to launch appointments for doctors after providing him with financial allocations.
He added, "The problem is currently limited to the failure of the Ministry of Finance to implement the law five months ago, which argues that it is awaiting the decision of the Council of Ministers, pointing out that there is an expected meeting with the Prime Minister in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and his union, to obtain approval to allocate grades for the appointment of veterinarians.
" Sheikh Kazem, “the urgent need to appoint five thousand veterinarians,” revealing “the closure of 250 specialized institutions in all governorates due to the lack of veterinary staff capable of managing them,” according to the official newspaper.
And he continued, "Health in the country is greatly threatened due to the government's tendency to appoint human doctors only, since most of the epidemics and diseases that have spread recently in the country are of animal origin, but they are transmitted to humans, such as avian and swine flu, hemorrhagic fever and the Covid-19 pandemic." Appealing to the government and the Council of Ministers to "vote on providing financial allocations for the Veterinary Medical Graduation Law." Ended 29/N33
