Human rights participate in the International Green Economy Conference in Doha

An international conference in which the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights participated recommended the need to move to a green economy, and support mechanisms to ensure access to effective treatment for those affected by climate change.
Sarmad Al-Badri, Director of the Relations and Media Department at the National Office of the Commission, Sarmad Al-Badri, told Al-Sabah: The Qatari capital, Doha, recently concluded the work of the international conference on climate change and human rights organized by the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar, in coordination with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the United Nations Program. Development, the League of Arab States and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, noting that the conference recommended the need to support a rapid and just transition to a green economy, in order to achieve sustainable livelihoods, as well as to establish and support mechanisms to ensure access to effective treatment for those affected by climate change, in addition to supporting the development of The legal and institutional environments that protect and support human rights in a healthy environment.
He explained that the recommendations made by civil society organizations included a call for rights-based climate action at three levels, international, regional and national, in addition to supporting the development of the evidence base related to the impact of climate change on human rights, including participation with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In the global assessment of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, stressing at the same time the rapid increase in pollution mitigation measures, by reducing emissions to limit climate change to the maximum extent possible.
Al-Badri stated that the recommendations also stressed the development of climate-related financing mechanisms for people, groups and peoples living in dire conditions, and the development of strong accountability frameworks related to the effects of climate change on human rights, and also urged the effective participation of people most affected by climate change in climate decision-making, and ensuring protection rights of environmental human rights defenders, and to ensure that efforts to address climate change respect, protect and fulfill human rights.
