The Directorate stated in a brief statement, a copy of which "NAS" received (March 1, 2023), that "the work of the passport issuance system has been suspended for tomorrow, Thursday, 3/2/2023 only, in preparation for the launch of the electronic passport."

Earlier, the Director of Passports, Brigadier General Majed Adnan, said in a statement to the official newspaper, followed by “Nass” (November 14, 2022), that “the electronic passport carries more than 15 to 18 visible and hidden security marks, and therefore it will be very difficult to manipulate or forge it.” In addition to containing a SIM card that includes all information related to the holder of the passport, in addition to the face print that the current passport does not contain, which will enable the identification of all information of the owner of the face after displaying it on computers, which will contribute to enhancing security.

Adnan confirmed, "his directorate continues to issue the regular passport," pointing out that "the passports issued by it amounted to about one million and 4,000 passports during the past months," noting that "the past period witnessed a delay in some directorates in issuing the passport as a result of the unavailability of the passport."
