    Baghdad today - Kurdistan
Today, Thursday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan objected to Article (35) of the Elections Law.
The leader of the union, Hedayat Taher, said in an interview with (Baghdad Today), that "Kirkuk cannot be excluded from holding elections, and what applies to it must apply to other provinces."
Taher added, "The demand to verify and update voter records must include other provinces," stressing that "this article is a clear targeting of the Kurds, as they constitute the majority in Kirkuk, and there is a fear of their clear control over the provincial council, and stopping the exclusivity of the governor." .
It is noteworthy that the Arab and Turkmen components in Kirkuk governorate announced their rejection of the provincial elections law without including the new amendment (Article 35).
Article (35) of the Provincial Council Elections Law of 2018 stipulates in its first paragraph that “the Independent High Electoral Commission, in coordination with the relevant ministries (interior, commerce, planning and health) checks voter records before holding elections,” but in the second paragraph it states that “in In the event that it is not possible to audit before the elections are held, the above mechanism for checking records shall be implemented no later than (6 months) from the start of the work of the elected provincial council
