    Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Transport clarified Iraq's gains from the implementation of the (TIR) ​​agreement for global land transport and clarified the latest business developments to put it into effect.

    The media office of the Ministry of Transport said, in a statement to the official agency, that "the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers agreed to Iraq's accession to the agreement to implement the land transport system for transit and international guarantee (Transit), by its Resolution 218 for the current year, and the House of Representatives approved Iraq's accession to the agreement in 2016 and published In the Iraqi Gazette, Issue 4673 of 2020.
    He added, "The Ministry of Transport then addressed the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the purpose of signing the instrument of accession to the (TIR) ​​agreement and informing the International Land Transport Union, and after signing the instrument, the actual implementation steps will begin," noting that "the ministry is still awaiting the administrative procedures of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs."
    He pointed out, "The (TIR) ​​agreement aims to facilitate international land traffic for transport operators and their agents, by facilitating the movement of goods subject to customs seals in a simple and cost-effective system, and reducing delays at border crossings, and the passage of shipping containers and vehicles operating in international trade." ".
    He explained, "The implementation of the agreement will allow the entry of thousands of shipments into Iraq annually, as it represents a point of contact and a passage between East and West, and will allow it to benefit from the revenues of (TIR) ​​fees, transit, and the Global Positioning System (GBS), in addition to the financial returns achieved from the entry of trucks, their drivers, and services." Logistics such as restaurants, rest houses, fuel and shopping that revive the border crossings, in addition to service stations on international roads, as well as customs revenues, which contributes to revitalizing the Iraqi economy significantly.
