Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The Ministry of Planning said, on Tuesday, that unemployment in the country is more than what was shown by the World of Statistics report on economic statistics for countries, yesterday, Monday.
A statistic published by the World of Statistics website showed that Iraq has become the third highest unemployment rate in the world and the highest rate in the Arab world, reaching 15.55%.
And the site indicated that the repercussions of unemployment are deeply felt throughout the country, which confirms the urgent need to take effective measures to address this issue, describing the matter as “worrying.”
The ministry's spokesman, Abdul-Zahra al-Hindawi, said, "The latest unemployment statistic in Iraq was 16.5% for the year 2022," noting that "we do not know our position in the world in terms of the unemployment rate."
He added, "The unemployment rate has increased from what was recorded in 2018, which was 13.8 percent," noting that "the rise in recent years came as a result of many reasons, which are linked to the economic situation, oil prices, and the stopping of projects in 2020 and 2021 due to the difficult circumstances the country was going through." ".
He pointed out that "there are solutions to reduce this rate of unemployment through appointments of first-class workers and holders of higher degrees in government jobs and orientation to the private sector to achieve partnership with it to create real opportunities for youth employment, in addition to the existence of a strategy and serious orientation towards economic development plans within the government's directions."
