    [rtl]Baghdad - Iraq today:

Iraq called on foreign companies to bid for contracts to explore and develop natural gas reserves in 11 new blocks, as part of efforts to produce much-needed natural gas in power plants and reduce imports that affect the country's budget.

The Ministry of Oil said in a statement that eight of the announced gas exploration blocks are located in Anbar Province, while one is located in the city of Mosul, another between Anbar and Mosul, and the last between Anbar and Najaf.

The ministry added that it had concluded its preparations to launch the sixth licensing round for gas exploration, without specifying a date for submitting bids. It does not have the facilities to convert it into fuel and relies instead on Iranian energy imports to generate electricity.[/rtl]
