Today, Friday, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) warned of the seriousness of the Kurdish division in the provincial council elections in the disputed areas.
The leader of the Union, Mariwan Nader, told "Baghdad Today": "There is a real need for the Kurdish political forces to run in the provincial elections, with a unified list in the disputed areas in general and Kirkuk in particular."
He explained, "However, the matter has not yet entered a serious stage, nor have the discussions or endeavors entered the stage of seriousness, in a way that parallels the nature of the current situation in the conflict areas."
Nader added, "The upcoming elections in the disputed areas are in order to restore the stolen rights of the Kurds and end the suffering of the Kurdish citizens, especially since the results of the upcoming local elections in Kirkuk will have clear and influential political and social effects on the Kurdish street."
He stressed that "there is a danger that the Kurds will be divided in the elections in the disputed areas."
Earlier, the Electoral Commission announced the start of registration of entities and alliances participating in the provincial elections scheduled for December 18th.
While the Patriotic Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Party continue to hold meetings at the level of political offices to discuss controversial issues, the most important of which are the regional parliament elections and local elections, while the data indicates the "failure" of the two sides to reach fundamental understandings.
