    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Representative Thaer al-Jubouri said today, Saturday (June 22, 2024), that the Syrian Democratic Forces, or what is called the “SDF,” threaten more than 7 million Iraqis with thirst.
Al-Jubouri explained in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the SDF forces deployed in some Syrian regions impose their control on a strategic dam on the Euphrates River and are deliberately closing it in order to prevent its revenues from being released towards the river and from there to Iraq at very high rates under false pretexts, which puts southern and central Iraq in a position.” very Difficult".
He added, "The truth that many do not know is that the Euphrates River is currently being fed from the Tigris arm to supply the central and southern governorates with water to feed the liquefaction stations, meaning that there are 7-9 million people who are besieged by thirst and drought at the present time."
Al-Jubouri pointed out, "It is necessary for the government to have a firm stance regarding what the SDF forces are doing, which are playing questionable roles by deliberately cutting off the waters of the Euphrates River in a way that will lead to a disaster in the central and southern Iraqi governorates and may get out of control."
The Syrian Democratic Forces are a military force that emerged in northeastern Syria in October 2015, from the union of various military formations and factions, the majority of which are Kurdish.
It receives direct support from the United States of America, and used it in its war against ISIS. These forces are also accused of committing human rights violations.
The Syrian Democratic Forces define themselves in their first statement issued on October 11, 2015, as “a unified national military force for all Syrians, bringing together Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, and all other components on the Syrian geography.”
The statement specified the goal of this force, which is "to establish a democratic Syria in which Syrian citizens enjoy freedom, justice, and dignity without excluding anyone from their legitimate rights."
The establishment of the Syrian Democratic Forces was announced on October 10, 2015, that is, 11 days after Russia announced its military intervention to support the Syrian regime in confronting the Syrian revolution. The announcement of the establishment was in the city of Al-Malikiyah in Al-Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.
The establishment came with an introductory statement that confirmed the start of the formation of the forces and their work, after the United States of America announced its intention to provide weapons to a selected military group for the purpose of fighting ISIS.
The United States of America marketed it as representing all components of the Syrian people, but it represented units of the Kurdish People's Protection Party and some Arab, Syriac, and Turkmen factions.
