A US official said that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken signed a new waiver today, Tuesday, allowing Iraq to pay Iran for electricity, which for the first time allows such payments to be made to accounts in non-Iraqi banks, according to Reuters.

"The United States hopes that the 120-day waiver will help ease Iranian pressure on Iraq to access funds that previously could only be deposited in restricted accounts in Iraq," the official said, according to Reuters.
This step is unprecedented, as it will allow Iran to obtain funds directly, after the United States used to grant Iraq an exemption to import energy from Iran only, without exempting it or allowing it to pay dues in dollars.
