The economist, Diaa Al-Mohsen, criticized the Iraqi banks' policies regarding the housing loan initiative and the large benefits that are placed as obstacles in front of the beneficiary of the loan.
Al-Mohsen said in a press interview seen by “Takadum” that “Iraqi banks operate under the law of the Central Bank, which had previously launched a housing initiative, but they are trying to circumvent this initiative by calculating large interest on the initiative’s loans.”
He added that "the housing fund operates without interest, with the exception of administrative commissions that it obtains for one time only," noting that "housing loans are interest-free, unlike other banks that set large benefits of up to 25 million dinars."
And that "reducing the housing crisis is not by imposing large interest on loans and obstructing the Central Bank's initiative, but rather there is an urgent need to facilitate procedures to ensure that citizens obtain a loan for housing easily and without large interests."
