The "Higher Committee for the Development Road" stated that it is in the process of selecting the economic and investment model for it, and while an economist considered the Development Road project to represent a qualitative leap towards employing and investing the advantages that Iraq enjoys, the Ministry of Transport announced yesterday, Wednesday, the completion of 68% of the five berths of Al-Faw port, which is the main station of the "Development Road" project, in preparation for the docking of the first ship in the first berth after its completion soon.
Nasser Al-Asadi, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Transportation Affairs, said, in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "There are some internal works in the project, such as designs and the beginning of (geotechnical) examination works and initial design works, including the work of setting specifications on roads in cooperation with the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities and Public Works."
He added, "The project is on the right practical path, being an engineering and professional path, and we can find a giant project inside Iraq," noting that "(the Supreme Committee) as a source of decision adopts what the technical committees take from

For his part, economist Jalil Al-Lami said: "The (Development Road) project represents a qualitative leap towards employing and investing the advantages that Iraq enjoys, including the geopolitical location, energy, agricultural, mineral and human capabilities and resources, in a way that enhances its position on the global economy map, transportation network, supply chains and trade routes."

Al-Lami said in an interview with "Al-Sabah", that "to ensure the success and sustainability of such a strategic project, there must be extensive feasibility studies regarding the project, as it is very costly, especially with regard to the technologies and mechanisms that will be used to develop this project, so the economic feasibility study prepared by the Italian consulting company confirms Iraq's determination to complete this project as it constitutes a qualitative transition in the economic and commercial reality of Iraq, the region and the world."
The economist stressed that "the project is extremely important by all strategic measures, especially in the issue of reducing dependence on oil, as one of the most important methods of international supply and supply chains, and opening development and economic horizons of various sources and fields for Iraq, and the countries of the region have sensed the government's seriousness in implementing this project, so a large number of countries in the region have applied to finance and implement the (development path) project."
In addition, the Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis, visited Basra Governorate, yesterday, Wednesday, to follow up on the progress of work in the port of Faw.
And the ministry's media office quoted Muheibes as saying: "The completion rates in the five berths project for the great port of Faw amounted to 68%, compared to 19%," noting that "berth number one is about to start trial operation to dock the first ship on it."
Commenting on this, Shatha Radi, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Transport, said in an exclusive interview with "Al-Sabah": "The trial operation of one of the berths of the port of Faw will take place, and the first ship will dock there at the end of the current year 2023, according to what was planned by the ministry."
The ministry spokeswoman added, "The government is regularly following the stages of completion of this strategic project, which made it at the forefront of economic projects that will contribute to achieving the largest economic leap for the country." She indicated that "the operations of connecting the port of Faw to the submerged tunnel have been finally completed by the executing company, and there will be points of obsolescence and a clear acceleration in the completion of projects related to the port." ) which is the establishment of oil berths and wharves
