Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: An international report stated that Iraq intends to offer two planes parked at a Tunisian airport since 1991, one of which belongs to the former president of the regime, for public auction.
A report by the Flight Global website, which specializes in aviation industry news and information, stated that “Iraqi Airways will auction two 747 (jumbo) planes, one of which belongs to Saddam Hussein, which was transferred to Tunisia before the start of the second Gulf War in 1991 and has remained until the present time.” ".
And the report continued, that "the two planes parked at Touros airport, a point west of Tunisia, have remained there since 1991, and they have lost their colors and turned to white, and they are unable to fly at the present time."
He pointed out that "the two planes were manufactured in 1982 and were equipped with (GT9D) engines from the American company (Bart & Whitney)."
The report stated that "the two planes were smuggled to Tunisia for fear of bombing during the Kuwait war in 1991, and since then they have remained grounded due to the United Nations decision to ban flights on Iraq and left the fleet."
He pointed out that "Iraqi Airways intends to bid on them on August 16, at an estimated value of $494,000 per aircraft."
The report emphasized, "The requirements for participating in the auction include submitting a deposit of up to 20 percent of this value to the Iraqi Ministry of Finance."
And he added, "The winner of the auction must complete the deal within seven days and with conditions related to the use of the aircraft after the sale."
