    Baghdad - Nas
A Kurdish academic said that one of the goals of UN envoy Jennifer Plasschaert's visit to Iran a few days ago was to ensure that Tehran does not put obstacles in the way of the Kurdistan elections.

The university professor, Nawzad Hitoti, added in a post followed by “NAS” (4 August 2023): “Iran can disrupt the electoral process in Kurdistan in two ways: First, through the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, it has a decisive influence on the decisions of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. Second, Iran can To create problems for the process through the Shiite forces in the Iraqi federal parliament.

He continued, "It is not clear how Iran responded to Blackhardt, but it is unfortunate that the Kurdistan region cannot take an independent decision on an issue such as the elections, and Iran must be consulted on the process."

And the Kurdistan Presidency has set the date of February 25 of next year 2024 to hold the region's parliament elections.

"February 25, 2024 has been set as the date for holding the general elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament," the presidential spokesman, Dilshad Shehab, said in a press conference followed by "NAS" (August 3, 2023).

Shehab added, "All political parties in the region will be committed to coordinating all activities related to the elections with the Electoral Commission to implement the decision."

He explained, "The presidential decision will be published in the official Kurdistan Fact Sheet to set the date for the elections."
