Parliamentary law calls for the political inclusion of the “protected” in the fight against corruption

The Legal Committee called for the inclusion of what it called "politically protected" in anti-corruption measures, warning that the delay in approving the Acquired Nationality Law makes it difficult to recover wanted persons accused of stealing money and fleeing outside Iraq.
A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Raed Al-Maliki, told Al-Sabah: The fight against corruption must be accompanied by serious and real measures to gain greater support and credibility by including those inside Iraq who are "protected under political umbrellas or parties that carry weapons," noting that the failure to prosecute Protected categories, it may be interpreted that anti-corruption steps target only the vulnerable, unprotected corrupt.
Al-Maliki called for tightening procedures at home and not just electoral slogans and propaganda, noting that the extradition of wanted persons does not cause any problems with countries, because there are agreements to extradite criminals, including an agreement to combat corruption, issued by the United Nations and Iraq has ratified it.
The member of the Legal Committee warned against delay or procrastination in enacting the Acquired Nationality Law, and thus making it difficult for recovery procedures, realizing that having a real will would not make any task difficult or impossible.
During the previous years, the second nationality made it easier for many officials to escape abroad after evidence of corruption was proven on them, and it became a solid immunity for them from judicial and legal prosecutions.
