Iraq once again praises the results of the security agreement with Iran

Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim Al-Araji said - Monday - that the joint security agreement between his country and Iran has achieved results that have not been achieved between the two countries since 1991.
Al-Araji stressed “the importance of high coordination between the two countries,” and stressed that the results achieved after the security agreement have not occurred since 1991.
Al-Araji headed the Iraqi side in the Supreme Committee for Implementing the Joint Security Agreement between Iraq and Iran.
He stressed, “The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, is closely following the path of implementing this agreement, and that Iraq is keen on Iran’s security, and will not allow its territory to be a starting point for destabilizing the security of any neighboring country.”
He pointed out that the Iraqi side briefed the Iranians on “the stages of work carried out by Iraq in the area that was identified, which was occupied by the Iranian opposition, and which were all evacuated.”
He explained that Iranian opposition members in Kurdistan were disarmed and their areas were evacuated according to the agreement, and Iraqi federal forces were deployed there and placed far from the border.
The Iraqi government said earlier that members of these groups will be considered refugees, according to the controls of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Al-Araji pointed out that the Kurdistan Regional Government was serious about implementing the commitments it had set.
Continuing coordination
, and the Iraqi official stressed the importance of “Iranian officials informing the Iraqi side if any developments arise so that the necessary action can be taken.”
Al-Araji said that during the joint meeting, issues and files of common interest were discussed, as well as important topics related to protecting the borders and security of the two neighboring countries, and continuing joint coordination to complete all paragraphs of the security agreement on the ground.
Last August, Iran announced that it had reached an agreement with Iraq to disarm opposition groups opposed to Tehran and transfer them from the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan region, to be done by mid-September.
It is noteworthy that Iranian forces have continued, from time to time, to bomb sites of Iranian opposition forces holed up in their positions in the provinces of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah in the Kurdistan region, causing casualties among civilians.
For his part, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani confirmed that his country has repeatedly stressed that it will not tolerate any party regarding the security of its borders, and pledged to fully follow up on the security agreement signed with Iraq.
He was quoted by the Iranian Fars News Agency as saying that an Iranian evaluation delegation visited Iraq in order to accurately evaluate the field of implementation of the agreement signed with Iraq.
