Economic observers unanimously agreed that the Council of Ministers’ approval to transfer four residential cities for implementation to specialized foreign and local companies is a good thing that will alleviate the accumulated housing crisis, especially since 15 percent of the housing units will be for the benefit of the state and that their prices are fixed and not subject to bidding or bidding. A member of the Investment and Development Committee, Diaa Hindi Al-Hasnawi, told Al-Sabah: This is a good decision to solve the housing crisis, especially since there is a percentage of the homes that will be built that will go to the state, approximately 15 percent, and must be distributed among the needy and the poor, noting that these homes will not be at the prices of the complexes. He noted that the government has moved towards dealing in dinars entirely within the country, indicating that the average-income citizen will be able to buy these houses, but the poor citizen will have to be given housing by the government according to the percentage stipulated in the contract with the companies.
Al-Hasnawi confirmed that these complexes were transferred in a good manner without any suspicion of corruption or anything else, and there are 8 investment licenses in Babylon, four licenses in Karbala, and ten in Mosul, explaining that the committee is continuously following up on the issue and there will be hosting for the implementing companies.
For his part, economic expert Hazem Hadi stated in a statement to Al-Sabah that this procedure is correct because the main problem that the citizen suffers from is family division due to the lack of housing, and we are a lively people whose percentage of youth is very high, indicating that this housing will be subsidized because the lands will be given free of charge to the investor. In addition, the government will take care of the infrastructure, and the cost will be low and the prices will be good, enabling citizens to purchase them.
In turn, economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi explained in a statement to “Al-Sabah” that the establishment of new residential cities supported by the government is a good thing, but there are questions: Will these residential cities be built as previous residential complexes were built, which relied on designs and many of which were created in the form of villas at high prices? Or will they be low-cost housing projects?
He pointed out that the low-cost vertical housing, if implemented, will solve even a small part of the housing problem, as it will provide residential apartments and houses for people with limited income, noting that if the trend is otherwise, these complexes will be like others, providing villas at prices that may reach more than 600 million.
