Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The spokesman for the Kurdistan Regional Government, Peshwa Hawramani, revealed on Monday that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani informed the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government that the federal government will not send the salaries of the region’s employees directly, while Kurdistan Democratic Party member Dilshad Shaaban said on Monday The solution to the regional employee salaries crisis cannot be achieved except by approving the oil and gas law.
Hawramani said in a statement, “Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani assured the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Masrour Barzani, that the Iraqi government will not send the salaries of the region’s employees directly, because that is in violation of the constitution.”
He added, “Al-Sudani said that the salaries of the region’s employees will be sent through the official institutions of the Kurdistan Regional Government.”
Al-Sudani's report comes at a time when the blocs of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the New Generation Movement, the Kurdistan Justice Group, and the Kurdistan Islamic Union, in the Iraqi House of Representatives, collected signatures to pressure Baghdad to send the salaries of Kurdistan Region employees directly.
Baghdad sends 200 billion dinars to the Kurdistan Region every month as employee salaries, which means that what Baghdad sends covers only 22% of the salaries of Kurdistan Region and Peshmerga employees.
Shaaban says, “The issue of employee salaries in the region will continue and the problem will be renewed on a monthly basis, pointing out that the approval of the oil and gas law will contribute to resolving financial problems and disputes, because it is clear that there are political parties in Baghdad that do not want to solve this issue and are procrastinating the process of sending salaries.
