Sudanese directs to pursue attackers of military bases after attempts to stop the bombing failed

Baghdad/ Tamim Al-Hassan
It took the authorities 6 days to clarify their position on the drone and missile attack on military bases that has continued since last week, at a time when the US State Department warned its citizens against traveling to Iraq and began reducing the diplomatic mission in Baghdad.
Prime Minister Muhammad al-Sudani directed the security services to track down the elements carrying out the attacks on “Iraqi bases,” expressing his refusal to target those sites that include “international coalition advisors” present in Iraq, “at the official invitation of the government.”
This came after statements by senior American officials about the presence of threats against American forces and individuals in the Middle East, coming from “Iran’s supporters and allies” in the region, anticipating an escalation by them against Washington.
Since last Wednesday, unknown armed groups have launched 5 successive attacks with 7 marches and a number of missiles against 3 military sites in the west and north of the country and inside the capital, Baghdad.
Ihsan Al-Shammari, head of the Center for Political Thinking, believes that the government’s delay in announcing its position on the attacks was “due to the failure of Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani to convince his allies in the coordination framework, who threatened to target American interests, to stop these attacks.” Al-Shammari said in an interview with (Al-Mada) that the Prime Minister “does not want to open a new front against him and does not want to lose the coordination framework, both political and armed,” indicating that the position of the US State Department, which asked its citizens to leave Iraq, “embarrassed the government and presented a position contrary to what was expected.” From Washington towards Baghdad.”
The political affairs researcher pointed out that “the government failed to protect American and diplomatic interests, and the decision to evacuate American employees will cause concern for the rest of the embassies in Baghdad, which may take a similar step.” Al-Shammari said that Sudanese’s latest move came “because of the Prime Minister’s conviction that Iraq is close to becoming an arena for liquidation, as America and Israel have threatened to bomb any territory that works against them.” Al-Shammari considered that “the military statement will not stop these attacks, nor will it convince the United States that the danger has passed, because the factions will increase attacks at home because their popularity and slogans in support of Hamas and Gaza have been shaken by their inability to participate effectively.”
In the first official response from the government to the bombing operations, the spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Yahya Rasoul, said in a government statement that we affirm “our rejection of the attacks targeting the Iraqi bases, which include the headquarters of the international coalition advisors present in Iraq, at an official invitation by the government.”
He added, "The security and safety of these headquarters cannot be compromised," noting that "the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces directed all security services to carry out their duties, implement the law, and track and trace the elements carrying out those attacks."
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stressed that maintaining the security of all foreigners present in the Iraqi arena is one of the government’s duties.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the minister said during his call with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong that “one of the duties of the Iraqi government is to maintain the security of all foreigners present in the Iraqi arena.”
He added that “protecting diplomatic missions is part of the duties of the competent security forces,” and that “Iraqi and international laws impose this protection on Iraq.” These developments came after the US State Department directed the families of its diplomats and non-essential employees to leave Iraq, warning of “kidnappings.”
In a statement, the US State Department called on its citizens “not to travel to Iraq due to terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and the limited ability of the Iraqi mission to provide support to American citizens.”
The department directed the departure of “qualified family members and non-essential US government employees from the US Embassy in Baghdad and the US Consulate General in Erbil due to increased security threats against US government employees and interests.”
The US State Department continued, “United States citizens should not travel through Iraq... as they will face severe personal risks (kidnapping, injury, or death).” She added, “Due to security concerns, US government employees in Baghdad were instructed not to use Baghdad International Airport.”
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in an interview with NBC News that the threat to US forces in the Middle East stems from Iran’s supporters. “We are concerned and expect an escalation by Iranian agents against our forces and personnel.”
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had also expected an escalation of attacks on his forces and citizens in the Middle East, and said, “We see a possibility of an escalation of attacks on our forces and citizens in the Middle East.”
He added, “We will not hesitate to take military action if the conflict expands in the region,” and said, “We advise any country or group that wants to expand the conflict or benefit from it not to do so.”
