    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani confirmed today, Saturday (November 4, 2023), that Iraq’s foreign policy is stronger than changing circumstances and temporary tendencies, while noting that this matter was embodied in the early and decisive engagement with the region’s issues, most notably the Palestinian issue.
Al-Sudani said in his speech at the "Iraqi Ambassadors Conference" and followed by "Baghdad Today", "This event, which is being held after a break of six years, gains a lot of importance because of the great tasks that the ambassadors and representatives of Iraqi diplomatic missions undertake in communication and dialogue with countries of the world." "Many and diverse."
He added, "This event is an opportunity to emphasize the visions and goals that represent Iraq's highest interests in various files and fields," noting that "Iraq's face, its speech that the world hears, its position on basic issues, and its economic interests and partnerships represent the backbone of foreign diplomatic work."
He pointed out that "the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is Iraq's diplomatic arm, and conveys our country's voice and will at the same time. It informs others of our intentions and ideas, just as it provides them with an honest and clear picture of our methodology, our assessment of positions, and what is consistent with the interest of the Iraqi people with their various components and sects, and what this people accept." And what he does not accept either.”
He pointed out that "the concept of Iraq's external relationship with nations, states, and friends, as well as international organizations, is the basic text of our speech to the world," adding, "We emphasize the presence of our concepts of justice, peace, good neighbourliness, constructive work, and economic partnership in these relations."
Al-Sudani continued, “These diplomatic and foreign paths were accurately described by our constitution, and clearly stated in our ministerial approach,” adding, “Our concepts of constructive partnership are concepts of balancing the two balances, and the same is true in the meaning of common interests, our interest and the interest of others, apart from the axes, and also in the most prominent title, which is Non-interference in internal affairs.”
The Prime Minister stated that “this matter was embodied in our early and decisive engagement with the issues of the region, most notably the Palestinian issue,” stressing that “the Palestinian issue represents the most prominent scene and the most established and consistent example of our positions because it is the permanent right to the occupied land and holy sites.”
He continued by saying: “Our position is greater than just a political position, but rather it is part of the conscience of the Iraqi people, their culture, and their historical, social and religious adoption,” adding, “Here we recall the positions of the various religious authorities, foremost of which is the position of the supreme authority in Najaf al-Ashraf, which represents a natural extension of Najaf’s previous positions on the Palestinian issue.” And throughout history, in addition to the popular positions that were embodied in the ethical and humane response to what is happening in Gaza.”
Regarding Iraq’s official position on the Gaza War, Al-Sudani said: “We expressed it very clearly from the first day of the aggression, and we confirmed it at the Cairo summit, in addition to what we repeat in our ongoing contacts with officials from other countries about the necessity of stopping the aggression and preventing the region from sliding into a war that expands and will not stop.” He pointed out that “whoever is keen for this not to happen must work for an immediate ceasefire.”
He noted that "the most important thing, of course, is to work to open urgent humanitarian corridors with the contribution of all countries in order to save the people of Gaza," adding, "Therefore, our call to establish the Palestinian Support Fund was aimed in this direction, because what is happening in Gaza is a moral and humanitarian test for all free people in the world." ".
He pointed out that "the massacres committed against children and women in Gaza unfortunately confirm the failure of the international community to perform its role and a state of surrender to the law of the jungle, which the occupation wants to establish in the Palestinian territories."
The Iraq Ambassadors Conference kicked off today, Saturday, in its seventh edition under the title “Iraqi Diplomacy, Balanced International Relations and Sustainable Economic Development,” with the participation of (85) Iraqi ambassadors and heads of Iraqi political and consular missions abroad. It will present a developed agenda for Iraqi diplomacy, which will be reflected in more attendees. And the effectiveness of foreign policy, activating Iraq’s role in Arab, regional and international organizations and strengthening relations with countries based on the principle of mutual respect and achieving common interests, according to a statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
