Shafaq News / The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani confirmed, on Friday, work to resolve the outstanding issues between Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region, and while he indicated that the political system needs some constitutional amendments, he noted that the relationship with neighboring and regional countries is in continuous improvement.

Al-Sudani said, in a televised interview on the Arabic "Sky News" channel, which was followed by Shafaq News Agency, that "the outstanding issues with Kurdistan are being resolved successively within the ministerial curriculum of the current government."
He added, "Today there is a consensus on the necessity of approving the oil and gas law, because of its importance not only with regard to the Kurdistan Region, but also to all Iraqi components."
Al-Sudani pointed out that there is a "draft for the oil and gas law, which is being drafted by the Federal Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government," adding, "It will be presented later to the Council of Ministers, and then sent to Parliament for legislation."
On the political system in Iraq, the prime minister affirmed that the current government is in negotiations with political forces to "rewrite some constitutional texts," stressing that "an amendment to the constitution is an urgent necessity to preserve the political process."
Regarding the relationship with the United States, Al-Sudani said, "What the Iraqi government needs from the United States is the exchange of intelligence and security information," explaining that "ISIS is no longer able to impose its control on any Iraqi territory."
Regarding the Iraqi mediation between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the Prime Minister noted that "Iraq has played and continues to play an important leading role in the region, and that Iraq's destiny today is to be part of the solution to any crisis in the region," pointing out that this "is not limited to Tehran and Riyadh."
