    Baghdad today - Baghdad
There is an unprecedented movement witnessed by the Federal Integrity Commission to pursue the corrupt and recover the stolen funds, while some wonder about the reasons for not prosecuting the “corrupt” publicly before public opinion, and disclosing the parties behind them, so that they can serve as an example to those who trample on public money. A question answered by the Parliamentary Legal Committee via “Baghdad Today”.
A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Arif Al-Hamami, said today, Sunday (November 12, 2023), that “what prevents the trial of (corrupt people) from being broadcast publicly in front of public opinion is the existence of some human rights laws that prevent this, and even official statements are devoid of names.” Just mention the position.”
Al-Hamami stated to “Baghdad Today” that “Iraq is fully committed to international human rights laws, and there is no paragraph in the constitution or law that allows anyone to be tried publicly.”
He continued: "In contrast, there are many sentences issued against all those involved in corruption cases, without any leniency by the competent judicial authorities," noting that "this matter is important, to hold the corrupt accountable and reduce corruption."
Earlier today, the Federal Integrity Commission announced that the total number of arrest and recruitment orders issued and executed during the month of October against senior officials and those with higher ranks amounted to (45) orders.
The Investigation Department indicated in a statement received by “Baghdad Today” that “the judicial authorities issued (45) arrest and summons orders in cases that were investigated by the Commission’s investigation directorates and offices in Baghdad and the governorates, and referred them to the judiciary,” indicating that “the orders were issued Against (43) senior officials with high ranks for the period from (10/1 – 10/31), distributed as (41) recruitment orders, and (4) arrest orders.”
She continued, "The orders included (5) former ministers and two former ministers, namely the Ministers of Oil, Immigration, Displaced Persons, Defense, Transport, Finance, and Electricity, the head of the Sunni Endowment Office, a current deputy minister, and (3) former and (3) former undersecretaries," adding that "the orders also included A current governor, (4) former governors and a former governor, in addition to (11) current general directors, (6) former general directors, (4) former governors, and two former governorate council members.”
Until the middle of this year, according to the semi-annual report of the Integrity Commission, the funds recovered by the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission amounted to more than 382 billion dinars, and more than 82 billion dinars were prevented from being wasted, while the funds that were prevented from being wasted by the Integrity Commission amounted to about 920 billion dinars. The recovered funds amounted to more than 91 billion dinars, in addition to more than 4,000 recruitment and more than 3,000 arrest warrants and arrest warrants for red-handed crimes.
