The Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee called on the concerned authorities to monitor the work of websites and social media applications and the electoral promotion mechanism for the 2023 governorate council elections.
The head of the committee, Zahra Al-Bajari, told Al-Sabah: Through the work of the Ministry of Communications during the current period, we seek to follow up on websites that promote electoral campaigns through social media sites of all kinds.
She added that there is no authority from the Ministry of Communications and the Communications and Media Authority over most of the available applications, so there is a need to regulate their work.
She indicated that the current period preceding the electoral process for governorate councils is one of the important periods that require organizing the work of applications and websites in order to invest in them optimally.
During the past period, electoral promotion campaigns were launched through active and effective applications in the country and the websites of candidates for the 2023 elections, amid calls made by activists on social media sites to organize electoral campaigns more in order to know the service programs for the candidates, as well as documenting their programs and achieving high transparency to ensure public participation in Electoral process.
