{Politics: Al-Furat News} The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed that there is no agreement to pass the general amnesty law unless it is carefully studied.
Committee member, Muhammad Jassim Al-Khafaji, said in a press statement, “Despite the importance of the general amnesty law, there is no agreement to pass it from a legal standpoint, noting that the law reached the committee two months ago.”
He revealed that "the law received from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers is ambiguous and unclear, and contains only one article pertaining to those belonging to terrorist organizations."
Al-Khafaji added, “The House of Representatives is in a legislative recess, and the law will be postponed until the beginning of the new legislative term in the third year,” explaining that “the Legal Committee needs time to carefully study the draft law.”
He pointed out that "the law may raise discontent among the general public and misunderstanding because it may include terrorists in amnesty," adding that "the committee seeks to give reassurances in this regard."
Al-Khafaji pointed out that “the law in general pardons those sentenced to death or life imprisonment according to conditions,” explaining that “there are many exceptions to pardoning punishments, including (those convicted of drugs, human trafficking, and harming state security), all of which are paragraphs excluded in the general amnesty law.”
