The Pharmacists Syndicate revealed the submission of 25 applications to open new pharmaceutical factories in Iraq, at a time when it highlighted the need for Iraq to expand admission to postgraduate studies in the specialty of industrial pharmacy.
The head of the Pharmacists Syndicate, Dr. Mustafa Al-Hiti, said in an interview with the official newspaper, followed by Mawazine News, that “applications have been submitted to the Ministry of Health to open about 25 pharmaceutical factories.”
He pointed out, "This issue must have two maps. The first is concerned with the spatial distribution of these factories. If there is a desire to develop the governorates, it will have positive effects by employing the workforce, transportation, and their proximity to the distribution areas."
As for the second map, Al-Hiti revealed that it concerns “the type of pharmaceutical materials that we need to produce, as the majority of factories cannot produce the same medicine, thus not achieving the goal for which it was created, which is drug security with the materials imposed by the World Health Organization, which is called (List of essential medicines)”.
He pointed out that "a committee was formed to study the requests of those wishing to produce pharmaceuticals and manufacture additional materials, but from the basic list that Iraq needs at the very least," pointing out that "the best that Iraq can get is to reach 50 percent of the specific market need and not Quantity".
He stated that "the citizen has the right to have a safe and effective medicine produced, as there are medicines with a wide therapeutic coefficient between the toxic and therapeutic dose, and medicines with a low therapeutic coefficient between the two doses, and they must be given exceptional attention."
Al-Hiti explained, “The union had previously submitted to the Minister of Health a request to expand admission to postgraduate studies with regard to industrial pharmacy or the pharmaceutical industry, because most of those working in Iraq in these projects are graduates of the branches of the pharmaceutical industry in a number of countries, so that Iraq will be an importer of competencies.” After he was a source for it.”
