Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The American newspaper “Washington Post” reported that talks between Baghdad and Washington on the issue of the American military presence were ongoing even before the attack launched by the Hamas movement on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to the ignition of unrest in the region and exacerbated tension. Between American forces and the factions, it is not a negotiation to withdraw from Iraq.
The American newspaper quoted Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh as denying that the Iraqi-American Supreme Military Committee talks, which were announced by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US Department of Defense, were related to the withdrawal of American forces from Iraq.
According to Singh, the issue “is about the future of Iraq and ensuring that it is ready to succeed in defending its own security and sovereignty, and how the United States can support Iraq to do that.”

These statements include important details about the course of the talks between Baghdad and Washington regarding the American military presence in Iraq, as the statement shows that the talks between Iraq and the United States continued even before the attack carried out by Hamas on Israel in October 2023. This indicates the importance of the issue and the commitment of both sides to the negotiation. Despite the presence of influential regional events.
It is clear from the statement that the talks are not related to the procedures for withdrawing American forces from Iraq, but rather are related to the future of Iraq and how it can achieve success in defending its security and sovereignty.
The statement highlights interest in ensuring Iraq's security and enhancing its own defense capabilities. This reflects the United States' desire to remain in Iraq and enhance its ability to confront internal and regional security challenges.
The Pentagon spokeswoman's official denial confirms that the talks are not about a complete withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.
