The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to have a role and participate in the discussions that will take place with the American side regarding the exit of foreign forces.
Committee member Hussein Al-Amiri said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “The Foreign Minister made it clear that the United States is ready to negotiate with the Iraqi side for the withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraqi territory, and that there will be only diplomatic representation and respect for Iraqi sovereignty, and that our relations with America will serve In the common interests between the two countries.
He added, "The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee has great confidence in the Prime Minister that the Iraqi negotiator will be a good negotiator," calling for "the Security and Defense Committee to have a role in the negotiations with the American side in this regard," indicating that "until now the committee has not been officially notified." “To participate in the negotiations, but it hopes that the Sudanese will have a role in the negotiations.”
In addition, a member of the House of Representatives, Jassem Al-Moussawi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Parliament gave the government powers to reduce and withdraw American and foreign forces in general, and that there be only diplomatic representation that takes care of common interests, and this is what we hope for in the departure of forces, but with That remains a government decision.”
He added, "Parliament gave the government powers to negotiate the removal of foreign forces, except for some forces that practice advisory work as well as training." In addition, the Chief of Staff of the Army in Nineveh Governorate began the first steps related to the work of the joint “Iraqi-American” Supreme Security Committee. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, arrived in Nineveh Governorate yesterday, Sunday, and held an expanded security conference to assess the security situation in the governorate, within the context of shifting tasks between the Iraqi forces and the international coalition. In a related context, government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi said: “The launch of the work of the joint supreme military committee between Iraq and the international coalition is a very big dream, as the international coalition was established in 2014 and military operations ended in 2018, and since that date the coalition has been present inside Iraq.” Stating that "it is appropriate to begin studying the future of the alliance and develop an agreed-upon road map to move to a new phase of bilateral cooperation instead of the alliance."
He stated, “The dialogue began between the international coalition forces and the Iraqi government under the auspices of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, as the path to the end of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq was set on track,” explaining that “the prime minister made a pledge that the coalition’s mission will end during the term of his current government, and this is what "It will happen and be achieved." He stated, "All tasks related to the international coalition forces are transferred to the Iraqi armed forces, and we move to bilateral relations and agreements, including the strategic framework agreement or bilateral relations that will be imposed by the circumstances of the stage with the international coalition countries."
