Today, Tuesday, the work of the 12th session of the Iraqi-Syrian Joint Committee began in the capital, Baghdad, which was chaired by the Iraqi side, Minister of Commerce Atheer Al-Ghurairi, and the Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, on the Syrian side.
Al-Ghurairi stressed during the opening of the committee’s work, according to a statement received by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the Iraqi government’s vision is to create balanced relations in the region based on sustainable development, integrated economic interests, raising the level of trade exchange, and overcoming the obstacles that stand before it.”
He added, "The government of Iraq is making great efforts to develop economic performance and provide a suitable climate to enhance foreign trade, encourage investment, and create joint industrial and commercial cooperation that contributes to increasing the rates of trade exchange with Syria, which serves common interests."
Al-Ghurairi called on Iraqi-Syrian businessmen and companies to "take full advantage of the distinguished relations between the two countries and translate them into tangible cooperation projects in various fields."
For his part, Al-Khalil said that "his country is happy with Iraq's keenness to strengthen and develop relations between the two countries, which are built on the foundations of integration that serve the interests of the Syrian and Iraqi peoples," adding that "his country has a desire to develop and diversify intra-regional trade and raise the level of import and export with Iraq."
