    Shafaq News/ The President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, on Saturday called on the Republic of Bulgaria to raise the level of its diplomatic representation in the region.
    This came during his meeting with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on the second day of his participation in the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, according to a statement issued by the region’s presidency.
    The statement stated that "the meeting focused on developing relations between Bulgaria, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in the fields of economy, trade, culture, sports, tourism and agriculture, as well as discussing opportunities to enhance cooperation and bilateral agreements in the field of university study and higher education, and direct flights between Bulgaria and Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region." .
    The statement quoted President Nechirvan Barzani as saying: The Kurdistan Region attaches great importance to relations with friendly countries in Europe, expressing at the same time the region’s desire to expand cooperation with Bulgaria as a friendly country and member of the European Union. Therefore, he called on Bulgaria to raise the level of its representation in Kurdistan Region.

    In another meeting, President Nechirvan Barzani discussed, with Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler in Antalya, the latest security developments in the Middle East region, and the dangers and threats of terrorists.
    A second statement issued by the regional presidency stated that the two sides agreed on the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region, and making efforts to prevent further escalation of tensions. They also stressed developing Turkey’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan region.
