Shafaq News/ About two weeks after the detention of Kuwaiti fisherman Badr Abdul Mutairi and his release in Iraq, Kuwait witnessed a widespread official and popular movement in an attempt to return Al-Mutairi.
Al-Mutairi entered Iraq through the land border crossing between the two neighboring countries, on February 14th. With the aim of hunting with birds, or what is known as “sniping”, he was arrested at the border and his car and two birds with him were confiscated.
Al-Sayyad (52 years old) said that yesterday, Friday, he received calls from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs and members of the National Assembly, which he hopes will end with an intervention in his case and his return to his country, as the Iraqi authorities are holding his passport despite his release.
Representatives in the recently dissolved Kuwaiti National Assembly, including MP Muhammad Awad Al-Raqib and former MP Fayez Al-Jumhour, called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to intervene immediately to return Al-Mutairi to Kuwait.
The sergeant criticized the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry's procrastination in taking serious and firm action against Al-Mutairi, pointing out that 10 days after Al-Mutairi's arrest, Consul Mohsen Al-Ajmi promised to end the issue. This delay is unjustified and calls into question the dignity of citizens and the right to defend them abroad.
Local media also quoted an official in the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association as saying that the association decided to send a lawyer to follow up on the case in Iraq.
Al-Mutairi says that he has a hunting license, but he was arrested because of the slices of birds he had with him, which were placed under their skin. These chips did not work when they were examined at the Iraqi border crossing, he confirmed.
Al-Mutairi appeared in video clips calling on his country to intervene to return him, as he was staying in the hospitality of an Iraqi in Basra, after his arrest for nine days, before he was released on bail for five people, while his passport, car, and birds were still detained, and no official Iraqi comment was issued regarding Al-Mutairi’s arrest, Nor the nature of the charges against him.
