Iraq is taking steps to combat corruption

Parliamentarians and specialized observers saw that the efforts made by the Federal Integrity Commission, along with other executive, judicial and legislative bodies in the field of combating corruption, are important steps towards restoring the country to its health, stressing the necessity of continuous communication and concluding agreements with countries of the world to recover stolen funds and recover those wanted on corruption charges.
The head of the “National Approach” bloc, member of the Parliamentary Integrity Committee, MP Ahmed Taha Al-Rubaie, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Iraq’s embrace of the activities of the regional forum of the Arab Network for Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption is an important positive step,” noting that “this forum came Confirming that Iraq is one of the countries seeking legal reforms to recover funds.”
He pointed out, “The Federal Integrity Commission seeks to prepare an anti-corruption strategy for the next six years, from 2025 to 2030, in cooperation with the three legislative, executive, and judicial authorities and using advanced technology in application,” indicating that “this openness and communication with countries of the world and the exchange of information among them contributes to recovering corruption.” Iraq has lost its rights and eliminated what remains of corruption, which has begun to disappear due to the close monitoring by the legislative body represented by the Parliamentary Integrity Committee and the executive body represented by the Federal Integrity Commission.”
He added, "Iraq is successfully moving on the path to combating corruption, and Iraq will, in this forum, be a strong and influential supporter in the regional and Arab arena in this field," concluding his speech by saying: "The Parliamentary Integrity Committee supports all programs related to combating corruption and wasting public money."
The activities of the regional forum of the Arab Network for Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption began yesterday, Monday, in the capital, Baghdad, with the participation of 76 local, Arab and international figures.
For his part, the head of the “Rasid” Integrity Support Organization, Abdul Razzaq Al-Sultani, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Iraq has attended multiple international and regional forums, and concluded many agreements in the field of recovery and information exchange regarding criminals who stole public money, and it was There is a clear difference in positions. Some countries expressed their seriousness in cooperation and allowed the recovery of some of the smuggled funds, while others stood by and watched. Therefore, there was a clear position in the context of the seriousness of the representatives of the Federal Integrity Commission and its persistent and persistent endeavor to recover approximately 150 billion dollars smuggled outside Iraq. This requires exceptional efforts from all decision-makers.”
He pointed out that "in order to force all countries to cooperate with Iraq in recovering its smuggled funds and stop money laundering operations, Article 14 of the 2014 law must be activated, which stipulates non-cooperation and prohibiting the conclusion of any investment agreements with uncooperative countries in the field of recovering smuggled funds." Outside Iraq, this supports the efforts of the Integrity Commission and gives it more space in anti-corruption efforts.”
The head of the Regional Center for Studies, Ali Al-Sahib, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Iraq lived through the period after 2003, a state of insecurity and political instability, and the unrest that accompanied the state of change during which great corruption emerged in the seizure of public money, and widespread Corruption in all aspects of the state, which caused Iraq to lose a lot of money and financial allocations to many service institutions, which confounded the economic scene, which prompted the supervisory and judicial bodies, including the Integrity Commission, to form a crisis cell to try to eliminate corruption or limit it by activating some decisions and being open. On countries around the world through Interpol, it opened files that were closed containing billions of dollars smuggled out of the country, and it was able, with persistent efforts and with the support of the Prime Minister, to recover some of the sums and some of those wanted judicially.”
He pointed out that "Iraq's embrace of the activities of the regional forum expresses its sincere desire to cooperate with neighboring countries and regional and external countries in order to eliminate financial corruption and money laundering, and to draw a road map with the rest of the countries through the exchange of information and reports that would stop money smuggling and money laundering operations." in Iraq".
