    Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, commented on her country’s Foreign Ministry’s decision to classify the Iraqi “Loyal Ansar Allah” movement and its leader on the terrorist list, as confirmation that the United States is committed to confronting Iran’s “malignant influence.”
    Romanowski said in a blog post on the “X” platform that the US State Department’s designation today of the Ansar Allah Al-Awfiyya movement and its leader as a terrorist organization reaffirms the United States’ commitment to confronting the malicious influence of Iran and the threats posed by armed groups affiliated with Iran.
    The US State Department included the Iraqi “Loyal Ansar Allah” movement and its Secretary-General, Haider Mezher Malik Al-Saidi (Haider Al-Gharawi), on the terrorist list.
    The US State Department said in a statement: “The movement is a group of groups allied with Iran, based in Iraq, and part of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq (IRI),” which has been carrying out attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria and targets in Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip last year.
    The Foreign Ministry statement stated that the Ansar Allah Al-Awfiya movement claimed responsibility for a number of recent attacks against the United States.
    She explained that the movement attacked military personnel in Iraq and Syria, including participating in the drone attack in January that led to the death of three American service members at Tower 22 in Jordan.
    Washington stressed its commitment to using all available tools to weaken and disrupt the ability of Iranian-backed groups to launch attacks.
    Later, the movement issued a statement in which it said, “Describing Sheikh Gharawi and our Mujahideen movement as terrorists is nothing but an implicit acknowledgment of our heroic struggle and our honorable defense of the rights of oppressed peoples (...), and an affirmation that we are on the right path.
    The movement announced its full support for its Secretary-General, adding, “We express our great confidence in him and call on all free people in the world to reject these false accusations and stand by truth and justice.”
    According to a report issued by the Washington Institute on November 27, 2023, the first appearance of the “Loyal Ansar Allah” group was “in 2013 as a political entity in Maysan Governorate called (the Honesty and Giving Entity). Haider Ibrahim Al-Gharawi was the Secretary-General of this party, and his deputy was Mortada Ali Hammoud Al-Saadi.”
    In June 2014, Al-Gharawi formed the “Loyal Ansar Allah” as a unit affiliated with the “Popular Mobilization Forces,” according to the report.
    The report stated that the group is carrying out kinetic military operations against American targets and the Syrian Democratic Forces, kinetic paramilitary operations and moderate local counter-operations in the political and social spheres.
