A member of the State of Law coalition, Ali Khawam, revealed today, Saturday (June 22, 2024), that the State of Law candidate for the position of Governor of Diyala, Abdul Rasoul Al-Atbi, received 7 votes supporting him, out of 15 seats in the Diyala Provincial Council.
Khawam said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the State of Law coalition is still adhering to its right to the position of governor of Diyala,” indicating that “the choice of the Badr bloc and the coordination framework in general supports this trend and we have not seen any opposition yet, nor have we seen a serious attempt from within.” The framework for overstepping our entitlement.”
He added, "Several names of candidates for the position of governor of Diyala were put forward by our coalition, including Abd al-Rasul al-Atbi, who received 7 votes within the provincial council, awaiting the decision of two votes to form the next local government."
He pointed out that "Diyala's political complex may end after the Eid al-Adha holiday, ruling out a crisis because all forces realize the importance of maintaining stability and continuing stability and dialogue."
The Diyala Council consists of 15 seats, and according to the law, whoever obtains 9 votes can obtain the position of governor and proceed to decide the rest of the other positions.
