Implementation of 6 major projects in the capital

As part of the efforts made to include all areas of the capital with all services, Baghdad Governorate is implementing six major sewage projects in the outlying areas.
The Director General of the Baghdad Sewerage Directorate affiliated with the governorate, Firas Abdullah, told Al-Sabah: “The governorate, as part of its intensive efforts to raise the level of infrastructure and prepare early for the coming winter to ward off the risk of rainwater accumulation and flooding, has begun rehabilitating old sewage lines and replacing damaged ones, in addition to maintaining the pumping and pumping stations to avoid any flooding in residential areas and buildings, in addition to maintaining its power stations and providing sufficient fuel to ensure their continued operation.”
In the same context, he explained that the governorate is implementing, within its plan in this context, six major strategic projects, including the Mahmoudiyah sewage project, which was transferred last year, with a design capacity of 532 m3/hour, and the Al-Ta'mim sewage project in the Diyala Bridge, which is considered one of the important projects, with a capacity of 660 m3/hour, and provides its services to more than 11,000 people.
Abdullah added that the third project, which began implementation last year, is the Sabaa Al-Bour sewage network with a design capacity of 44 thousand m3/day. As for the fourth project, which is the largest of its kind in the capital as it serves more than 267 thousand people, it is the Abu Ghraib sewage network, with a network length of 378 kilometers, while the rainwater network length reaches 150 kilometers.
The speaker also explained that the fifth project is the Al-Rashidiya sewers, which began operating during the current year with a design capacity of 27,000 m3/hour, serving 105,000 people. As for the sixth and final project, it is the Al-Wahda sewers in Al-Madain, which serves 94,000 people and has a design capacity of 48,000 m3/hour daily. He stressed that all of these areas were deprived of services due to the lack of infrastructure service projects in them, but they will be included in services such as paving, electricity lines and full infrastructure once the sewerage projects are completed in them, so that they will be fully served areas.
The Director General of Baghdad Sewerage Directorate confirmed that these projects are part of the government program to raise the level of infrastructure in the outskirts that have been deprived of services for a long time, noting that the governorate has chosen solid companies with experience to implement them, and has instructed them to step up the pace of work and adhere to the time periods specified for each project, in addition to applying the engineering specifications stipulated in the contract concluded with the governorate in order to complete the work as quickly as possible and achieve advanced completion rates.
