Member of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Baqir Al-Saadi, vowed, today, Thursday, to hold accountable those responsible for the failure in the sewage departments and the treatment of floods resulting from rainfall.
Al-Saadi said in an interview, “There is a heavy legacy and failures from the past years that caused a lot of bottlenecks in the work of the sewage networks, so when it rains, major blockages occur,” indicating that “the funds are not currently sufficient to treat the sewage networks after half of the budgets were spent, whether in Baghdad or other governorates.”
He added that his committee "is seeking to solve this problem and will hold accountable those who fail, and the water suction engines will be replaced as quickly as possible to control the rainwater this winter."
Baghdad and other cities witnessed floods and the submergence of streets and residential neighborhoods during the past few days due to heavy rains, which caused material damage, while the Civil Defense Directorate expects greater floods and torrents in the coming period.
