Washington denies supporting the Government of 'political majority' called by al-Maliki

    April 8, 2013

Erbil, April 8 / April (PNA) - The U.S. Embassy in Iraq denied they have supported the political majority government, which Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki called for recently.

The U.S. Embassy in Iraq announced, yesterday, the statements of adviser and U.S. Secretary of State Brett Mcgurk re: forming a political majority government in Iraq, was the information lost in translation and is far from accurate, said the Chancellor, he stressed that the U.S. supports the Iraqi constitution, and all solutions which will be achieved through it.

The embassy said, after McGurk returned to the embassy his Anglo language was misinterpreted as he did not mention United States support for the establishment of a political majority government in Iraq.

The embassy confirmed that McGurk response to a question on the position of the United States regarding Iraq calling for the formation of a majority government political in Iraq, he said often our diagnosed position is wrong, we would like to emphasize that we support constitutional order in Iraq, we believe that politicians will try to reach solutions within the Constitution. For example, last year there were calls for the withdrawal of confidence from the government, and our position was that it was unconstitutional, as well the demands to form a majority government are unconstitutional, as long as their actions fall within the constitutional framework. If Iraq moves within the Constitution to find solutions it is up to the Iraqis themselves, but we hope when they do find a solution we hope within that formula the inclusion of adequate representation by all of the major party's in the political process.

The embassy clarified that they recognize McGurk's translation adviser made inaccurate statements which is the reason for this confusion.
