Trump supporter’s sign gets burned down; replacement sign triggers huge fine

Sam Pirozzolo, a Donald Trump supporter from Staten Island, awoke one night to discover that the Trump sign in his yard had been set on fire by an unknown arsonist. Undeterred, Sam erected a larger replacement sign and received a $2400 fine from the Department of Buildings for having an unlawfully large, illuminated sign in a residential district. Sam has sought the public’s help in paying his fine and fighting the citation in court, setting up a gofundme campaign to help defray these costs.
Mike Opelka, filling in for Doc Thompson on The Morning Blaze, welcomes Sam to the show to discuss his ongoing legal battle and express his support for Sam’s free speech rights, which extend to erecting political artwork on his own property.
“This is just a government trying to put a foot on the neck of somebody it doesn’t agree with,” Mike concludes. “And the fact that you really didn’t have an appeal or a chance to appeal — the guy came, he visited it without you being there, you were ticketed, you were charged — it seems like you were essentially guilty until proven innocent. And I can’t do that with free speech. I can’t support that.”
