Rob Gronkowski’s loss to hault Patriots’ Super Bowl run?

Well that sucks. The latest news from New England Patriots’ Nation is that star tight end Rob Gronkowski is going to have back surgery tomorrow in order to fix a ruptured disk.

This injury to Rob Gronkowski could have serious implications for the remainder of the Patriots’ season and Super Bowl run. With the injury to Gronk, the Patriots will have to rely more on the skillset of Martellus Bennett and those of the wide receivers in the absence of Gronkowski.
There is little way around the situation, this is a tough, tough loss. Rob Gronkowski is certainly, debatably, the most important member of the New England Patriots’ offense outside of quarterback Tom Brady. With Gronkowski being out for the foreseeable future, Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will once again have to adapt their offense to Gronk’s absence.
Rob Gronkowski has had a history of injuries to his back and this seems like it may be a continuing trend for his career. Already, twice, he has had back surgery (in 2009 and 2013). Add in other miscellaneous injuries sustained throughout his career and Rob Gronkowski is appearing more and more injury prone.
There is little question that Rob Gronkowski is a valuable weapon for the New England Patriots’ offense. He can run like a wide receiver, has the body size of Sasquatch and is a complete nightmare to line up against. The one problem with Gronkowski… the injuries.
This injury will make Martellus Bennett absolutely essential to the success of the New England Patriots’ offense. The chemistry between Brady and Gronk is unmatchable but adjustments need to be made in Gronk’s absence. Expect to see a lot more out of Bennett in the passing game.
If there is one team that could adapt to this serious loss, it would be the New England Patriots. I mean, this is the team that went 3-1 with their second and third string quarterbacks. There is no question that Rob Gronkowski will be sorely missed but injuries happen and the Patriots have the weapons to still make a Super Bowl run.
