The provincial council of Anbar has approved the loss of three billion dinars annually due to the continued closure of the international highway linking the province with three neighboring countries. He stressed that the need to avoid the continued closure, especially after the end of military operations in the province for several years.

Council member Mahmoud al-Dulaimi said in a press statement that Anbar province loses three billion dinars annually due to the closure of the international highway since 2014, and the subsequent during the period of military operations on a number of cities in Anbar.

Dulaimi said the closure of the international road in Anbar, which links the province with the capital Baghdad and extends to the border crossings with Jordan, Syria and Saudi Arabia, has stopped the trade between these countries with Iraq and caused the loss of Iraq in general and the preservation of especially large sums of money.

Dulaimi said that the closure of the highway has also resulted in high rates of unemployment, especially as many of the trucks, shops and markets were affected significantly, expressing the hope that "the possibility of re-trade between these countries in coordination with the central government, he said.

A large-scale military operation took place yesterday morning with the participation of the joint forces in the Anbar Operations Command under the pretext of securing and inspecting the north of the international road leading to Iraq's borders with Syria and Jordan in western Anbar province amid doubts about the reasons for the military operation at this time. The situation in Syria is strained after the military strike on the United States, Britain and France.
