US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the Quds Force was carrying out assassinations in Europe and other parts of the world.
"We will not tolerate what Iran is doing through Hezbollah in Europe and the Arab countries," Pompeo said.
On Tuesday, Washington imposed sanctions on five Iranians for being linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and enabling them to fire rockets at locations in Saudi Arabia.
The new sanctions extended to Mahmud Bagheri Kazimabad, Mohammad Agha Jafari, Javed Bashir Amin, Mahdi Azarbishi and Sayed Tahrani, the Treasury Department said.
"They provided technical expertise on Houthi ballistic missiles in Yemen and transferred weapons that did not appear in Yemen before the current conflict, on behalf of the Revolutionary Guard militia, the Quds Force," the ministry said.
The sanctions came after a UN team confirmed late last January that the rockets and other military equipment used by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia were Iranian-made.
"Iran will never have the long hand to control the Middle East," Foreign Secretary Mike Pompeo said during his presentation of the "new strategy" of the United States after President Trump's decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal.
