The health condition of most of the "hawks" and military leaders of Saddam Hussein's regime held in military jails in the provinces of Baghdad and Dhi Qar seems unstable. After the death of Lieutenant General Iyad al-Rawi, the founder of the so-called Al Quds Army under Saddam Hussein, The first group, Hussein Rashid al-Tikriti, the first founder of Saddam's Republican Guard, suffered a heart attack on Saturday, prompting him to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. However, he was returned to prison on Sunday after a relative improvement.
Al-Tikriti, who was sentenced to death for his involvement in the suppression of the 1991 uprising, participated in many battles of the Iraqi army in Palestine during 1967 and 1973, and his role in the Iraq-Iran war. He was the first to establish the Iraqi Republican Guard under Saddam Hussein after it was called the command of the knight forces.
He was appointed Secretary General of the General Command of the Armed Forces before being arrested by US forces who entered Iraq in June 2003. He was considered prisoner of war by the International Committee of the Red Cross and was brought to the ICC for trial.
Former Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, on Sunday called for the release of Hussein al-Tikriti, 78, for poor health.
Hashemi, who has been stationed in Ankara since he was accused of involvement in terrorist operations by the Maliki government in 2012, called on Abadi to release the first Sultan Hashim corner, the first corner of Saadi Tomeh and the first Saber al-Duri corner for situations Hashemi described as humanity.
On Saturday, the administration of Nasseriya military hospital announced that Tikriti had been admitted to intensive care after suffering a heart attack. He received treatment and returned to Al-Hout prison after his health improved.
Fourteen of the most important military leaders in Saddam Hussein's regime are still in dire straits compared to their advanced age and poor health.
During the invasion of Iraq, US military command had compiled a list of 55 wanted senior military leaders, including Saddam Hussein. Five of them were executed, 9 died during the detention period and 16 were released by US forces before leaving Iraq in 2011. While others remained, notably Azza al-Duri, vice president of Saddam Hussein's regime.
