The leader of the Iraqi Umma Party, Mithal al-Alusi, said on Tuesday that the US administration is considering putting government companies and figures on the sanctions list because of its failure to comply with the sanctions imposed on Iran.
Al-Alusi told Ashqaf News that "the US administration is currently studying the status or monitoring of violations of Iranian and Iraqi oil products and Iraqi leniency towards sanctions from the end of last year until today," adding that "without a doubt will produce a list of sanctions on Iraqi government companies and on Iraqi personnel and dealers and may also be Iraqi officials, and this will put the State of Iraq into great mazes. "
"We are surprised to hear voices of disdain from the presidency and some officials and the Iraqi parliament, all sacrificed in Iraq to win the dues of the official in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to rule Iraq."
"I expect that next month or at the latest after Ramadan, this list will exist. This will be an indictment against Iraq because it tolerates the Iranian Revolutionary Guards accused of being a terrorist organization for Iraq, the region and the world," he said.
A source close to the Iraqi government that the decision of the US President not to extend the exemptions from sanctions on Iran, may put Baghdad in an embarrassing situation, although Iraq is not directly concerned with this decision.
"President Donald Trump has decided not to reissue sanctions on Iran when it expires in early May, which aims to bring Iranian oil exports to zero and deprive the regime of its main source of income," the White House said in a statement.
