The MP for the coalition Amjad al-Oqabi in a press statement: "The federal constitution prohibits those who have acquired nationality to hold high positions in the Iraqi state, and this was the motivation for us to seek to activate this constitutional article."
Al-Oqabi added: "The previous parliamentary sessions did not have the desire and interest to pass the law, but this session has a real seriousness of its legislation, to choose officials between giving up their acquired nationalities or resign."
He explained: "Some of the parliamentary blocs and political parties in previous sessions are the deliberate to disrupt or delay the legislation of this law, because the majority of ministers and heads of the blocs were of non-Iraqi nationalities."
He continued: "The majority of the ministers of the current government have non-Iraqi nationalities acquired and exercise their functions normally without the presence of any legal or constitutional deterrence for this violation of the provisions of the Constitution," noting: "There are 13 or 14 heads of bloc in the current parliamentary session Iraqi".
