New instructions for U.S. airlines to fly over Iraq on

    08/01/20140

The Department of Civil Aviation U.S. federal instructions to airlines in the United States not to fly at an altitude of 30 thousand feet or less above the territory of Iraq, because of the "risks" posed by the armed conflict there. The federal agency has decided in the past to prevent the flight at an altitude of less than 20 thousand feet before you make these new instructions. The decision comes just days after the fall of the Malaysian passenger plane in eastern Ukraine area controlled by the rebels loyal to Russia, which led to the deaths of 298 people on board a flight from Amsterdam and Kuala Lumpur. Worried companies of a similar disaster in Iraqi airspace, especially in light of the security situation in the tension many areas, especially those that fall under the control of the organization of the Islamic State (Daash). There are fears of an American access to militants in Iraq on weapons capable of dropping aircraft, and reinforced these concerns because of a strong suspicion that the Malaysian plane "shot down" by a rocket in a conflict zone.
The airlines European and North America had abolished the earlier flights to Israel after scattering the remains of a rocket near Ben Gurion Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration has banned the U.S. for a temporary period on aircraft carriers flying to or from Israel

    Blackwater

On the other hand, said the Associated Press that one of the employees of Blackwater Security who is on trial and others in charge of the killing of 32 Iraqis in 2007, testified that he and his colleagues have not been exposed to the threat when they opened fire on the victims in central Baghdad at the time.

The Agency considers that this testimony refutes allegations colleagues witness who claimed they were fired in retaliation for the gunmen opened fire on them.

    FAA Flight Restriction Announced

    Friday, 01 August, 2014

Following the Malaysian Airlines MH17 incident in Ukraine, the United States has taken a closer look at events in Iraq in relation to commercial airline safety and security.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced that American commercial aircraft with flight plans over Iraqi airspace must maintain an altitude above 30,000 feet. American airlines are also not allowed to fly into Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports.
This concern stems from the fear of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, ISIS) militants having possession of surface-to-air missile systems. A previous announcement had mandated flights remain above 20,000 feet.
This announcement follows individual airlines’ plans to modify their own flight plans if their aircraft crossed through Iraqi airspace.

New flight restrictions over Iraq following MH17 tragedy

American carriers from flying less than 30,000 feet above Iraq, while European Aviation Safety Agency urges European airlines to follow suit

Fears that the Iraqi conflict pose a threat to aircraft has led to new restrictions being imposed over the country’s airspace.
In Washington the Federal Aviation Administration has ordered American carriers not to fly below 30,000 feet when crossing Iraqi airspace.
This was, the FAA said, because of "the potentially hazardous situation created by the armed conflict in Iraq”.
Similar advice has been given by the European Aviation Safety Agency, but it lacks the power to impose restrictions on carriers.
In Britain a spokesman for the Department for Transport said it could impose a ban.
“In practice this would be a decision taken together with an airline in consideration of the safety and security evidence.”
The threat to aviation from conflicts on the ground was highlighted by the downing of MH17 by a ground to air missile fired by Russian separatists fighting Ukraine.
It led to the no fly zone - which had already existed over Crimea - being extended to cover the Russian-Ukrainian border.
There were fears that the Air Algerie flight which crashed in Mali last month could also have been downed by a missile, although now the consensus is that the crash was caused by bad weather.
It is not unusual for airlines to fly over conflict regions and no fly zones - whether mandatory in America, or advisory in Europe - are only introduced when there are fears that aviation is at risk.
In the case of Iraq, Virgin Atlantic confirmed it did not fly over the country.
“Virgin Atlantic can confirm that we are not currently flying over Iraqi air space. Safety and security is our top priority and we will always follow government advice in such matters.
Meanwhile British Airways said: “Our flight plans vary depending on a number of factors, but our highest and first priority is always the safety of our crew and customers.
“We would never fly in airspace unless we were satisfied that it was safe to do so.’’
Willie Walsh, head of International Airlines Group, which includes British Airways, called for more action to protect aviation.
“What happened to MH17 was a disgrace, I was sickened by the images I saw. Governments need to ensure surface-to-air missiles are controlled, we need a convention on them,” he said. “ It would also be helpful if we had some way of sharing information about air space.”
