{Local: Al Furat News} The Parliamentary Oil and Energy Committee revealed the opening of 12 power stations in the country during the current year.
"Twelve stations will be opened throughout Iraq during this year under the auspices of the German company Siemens," said a member of the committee, Saher Phone, to the Euphrates News Agency.
He added, "This company is considered global and has experience and a long history in the field of electric energy, as it will be contracted with a number of contracts in the near future for the purpose of developing the electric sector."
Last month, Iraq and the German company Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding to increase domestic electricity production by about 11 gigawatts.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Al-Abadi, said that the memorandum will add 6,000 megawatts to the national system. Which will lead to an increase in the hours of the electric current.
Al-Abadi stressed that the memorandum addresses the problems of transportation and distribution in the system, and the establishment of transformation stations and transmission lines for energy, pointing out that the volume of domestic demand for energy now amounts to 34 thousand megawatts, at a time when the country currently produces less than 20 thousand megawatts due to the decline in the release of imported gas. .
